LAPAROSCOPIC VENTRAL HERNIA SURGERY

Laparoscopic incisional hernia surgery, also known as laparoscopic ventral hernia repair, offers several benefits compared to traditional open surgery. The setup and instruments are similar to that used in the inguinal hernia repair but the width, number and technique of placing the ports varies (up to 3 – 6) depending on the hernia location, size and the operation to be performed. Laparoscopic ventral hernia surgery can be very complex and an advanced procedure and requires the surgeon to train and master the skills to have good outcomes.
The benefits of laparoscopic ventral hernia surgery would be reduced pain, reduced hospital stay, faster recovery, reduced blood loss, improved cosmesis, and reduced risk of wound complications. Few ventral hernia repairs performed laparoscopically are intra-peritoneal onlay repair (IPOM), trans abdominal pre-peritoneal (TAPP), enhanced view totally extraperitoneal (e-TEP), enhanced view totally extraperitoneal with component separation (e-TEP with RS/TAR), trans abdominal retero-muscular repair (TARM).
